Awareness Week 2010

Victoria Sunday 10th -16th October 2010

AAAF Awareness week kicked of in brining Alopecians and non Alopecians together at Kingston Town Hall for a Wellbeing Expo on Sunday.  AAAF was supported with Yoga, Zumba, Aerobics and Dance performances throughout the day.

Although we fell short on the world record attempt at the “Largest gathering of Mohawks”, a great deal of laughter was observed.

On Monday 46 golfers joined in a bright sunny day at Rosebud Country Club. AAAF was proudly supported by Insight – Golf, NSK Australia, Club Buggy and Davmil Hydraulics.

On Friday the kids got into action supporting AAAF in doing a crazy hair day.

The following schools supported this initiative;

Melton South Primary School $163.60

Pakenham Springs $ 490.60

Gladstone Park Primary School $276.50

Mill Park Primary School $320.00

Beechworth Montessori Primary School  $74.00

Roseville College (NSW) (Yr 9 Girls)  $221

Our last activity of the week was held on Saturday and although the weather was not on our side, 32 brave walkers and riders did the 7.7km walk/ride.  One of our youths Mel bought comedy to the event with organising Bald T-Shirt slogans for her walkers.

Our fellow Alopecians braved the drive to the beautiful Moreton Bay
and enjoyed the peaceful environment of the Redland Bay Uniting Church hall.

The Church had had their annual cake stall on the same day so we had a lovely aray of cakes to choose from and we started our morning with a nice cuppa and a chat!

We came together as a group and discussed the amazing work of the AAAF – and their achievements thus far!   Angela Jackman showed the fantastic “School Pack” which is a
great tool for parents having to deal with school aged children and making the school environment Alopecia friendly – we loved the idea of teaching children about humanity.

We then played a introduce a new friend game – which went down really well – it was SO simple but everyone chatting and there was a real buzz around the room as
people were invited to find a new friend and share their alopecia journey – all the supporters were also asked to join in so that they could get a greater understanding of this
frustrating condition.

Our fabulous friends from Tango Hair (incorporating Freedom wigs) and Undercover Angels (affordable REAL hair wigs on lace mesh) certainly gave us a good cross section of
wigs to look at.

Our meeting finished with yet more cake and this time some fruit platters (well we all need a little of the healthy stuff!) – Our next meeting will be in February 2011 and will
also have our AGM.
