Lucas – Sponsorship Story

The last few months have mainly been about starting year 10 and training hard for the big competitions coming up. School is going well this year. I feel more confident with how I look. I’m currently in a growth stage. I have a few small patches of hair growing on top of my head, but I still shave my head as I have gotten used to it being short. I have also started getting my eyebrows and eyelashes growing back.

Lots of people have been asking about my hair at school as I’ve been doing beach sports for school sport. I don’t wear a hat when we are at the beach and more people have now seen me without a hat. I decided to have my school photo without my hat this year. My parents were really surprised as I hadn’t told them I would be doing it. The teachers at school were also surprised. I’m still allowed to wear a hat or hood. My school have been really supportive about my alopecia journey.

In March I competed at the first Gymnastics NSW State trial for trampolining and Double Mini Trampoline. I came 1st in level 6 double mini and 3rd in under 17 international stream for trampoline. I’m moving up to under 17 international stream for double mini trampoline before the next state trial which is in April. The State Championships are in May so I’m hoping I do well in both events. At the first state trial I was successful in qualifying for the state team in both events to compete at the National Gymnastics Championship which will be held in Sydney in July. I’m super excited about it as my goal was to qualify at the first state trial and I did it!

The sponsorship has been really helping me get my story out there. I have been sharing my alopecia journey with so many people. It is often a topic of conversation at my job with customers, at competitions with other competitors and coaches and also at school. We have also been sharing the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation links on social media and posting with hashtags on the posts about my trampoline achievements: #teamalopecia & #alopeciaareata.
